More Grammar Tips

The best trick I have up my sleeve to catch grammar errors is to TO READ OUT LOUD! You will be amazed at what you find when you read your copy out loud.

But I must admit, I do search the Internet and use some websites when I’m unsure about certain grammar rules. For instance, I can’t tell you if something is a dangling modifier or an irregular verb, but I do know when something doesn’t sound right!

I found two new websites to help fix grammar problems.

ChompChomp.com has a quick and easy to read “Rules” page that covers a variety of topics. One mistake that I see often in writing is non-parallel sentences (that’s what they called it). Basically, it’s when the nouns or verbs are not matching up, such as “I’m sitting in the chair and read a book,” when it should be “I’m sitting in the chair and reading a book.”

FactMonster.com has a section on commonly confused words. I scanned the list and saw words on there that I too might confuse if I’m not careful. For instance, did you know that “complement” means something that completes or makes up a whole and “compliment” is an expression of praise or admiration.
